Laundry List

You say I keep lists in my head
of what you did wrong, but
I also keep lists of your lists.

According to you,
I am all of these things:

mean,
selfish,
abusive,
obsessive,
thoughtless.

Critical,
inconsiderate,
judgmental,
wasteful,
refusing to take initiative in any
sort of setting.

Demanding,
jealous,
frustrating,
non-communicative,
blasphemous,
and a two-faced,
self absorbed idiot.

The list is far from over,
but you get a snapshot of your list,
which runs parallel to mine,
lining my head in small writing.

A list of why things will not work out,
no matter how hard we try.
We are missing too many pieces of
the puzzle that makes up love.

You just won’t accept that truth,
or stare it in the face
while it stares back at you.
To you it’s like looking down the
barrel of a loaded gun and waiting.
To me, it simply is a list – of a list
of a list, of a list.

The very one you deny having.
