Ego Deflation

You are melting;
your face dripping down,
sagging into folds of weathered flesh.
I have scorched you with indifference
and everyday you shrink;
growing smaller,
like a deflating rubber toy.

The hair combed over your bald spot
is shrinking and fading too,
and every look you give me
is full of accusation.
Your feet are as small as a doll’s now,
and your hands,
no longer capable of brutality.

I caused this diminishment.
I alone made it happen.

Something
small and forgotten,
like a photograph or letter
in a drawer;
you are finally going away.
