You are farther from me
than you’ve ever been.
There was a time
I would have called you back,
but I watch you rise;

climb the dizzying heights
until I’m forgotten
in the exhilarating rush
of thin blue air
toward sunshine and beyond.

I watch
until, even squinting,
you’re gone.

  1. Brian carlin says:

    Nice and compact and to the point Gay. I like your thin blue air and your even squinting

  2. heather says:

    I like the last lines. The squinting is that detail that gets me. I’m still watching him go, and I’m working at it.
    Nice work. Lovely words.
