On Second Thought

Sometimes love
feels like sunlight
and you bask
in real warmth.
But, more often,
it’s just
dark pressure.

A dog collar.
fitted a little too tight;
leash, too short
for real freedom.

When the tight fist
of love
closes
over your heart
tries to crush it
into submission,

pick a spot
in your own light.
Don’t waver.

Lovely poem Gay, I guess we’ve all felt that dark pressure and the fist grasping our hearts too tightly, hope you are well !

really like the contrasting images in this one – the light-dark-light again is very nicely crafted as well.
